Erie Co. Skywarn Informally Activated this Morning

August 13, 2013

Erie county skywarn informally activated early this morning to monitor as the line of strong thunderstorms crossed through the county a little after midnight. Our forecast officer, Alan, did not call up a formal net, hoping that the storms would weaken as they moved off of the warm lake and over the cooler land. He was right, for the most part, and the biggest story ended up being the flooding. Area public safety frequencies were hopping with hydro-related calls as the activity passed through. There were also several reports of downed trees, one of which apparently fell on a tent at a campground in Millcreek Township. Luckily, no one was reported injured.

Thanks to the folks that were on the radio last night, monitoring the weather situation. As always, the diligence and willingness to help out the community, no matter the time of day, is certainly appreciated.

If you’d like to share some things you heard on the scanner last night, feel free to comment and let us know. I’d love to hear about what you monitored!
