Two Serious Accidents in Erie County on Thursday

A serious accident occurred Thursday night at approximately 10 PM in Erie at West 5th and Walnut streets. A man was traveling westbound on 5th street in the area when his car struck another vehicle which was parked, causing his car to flip onto its roof and the other vehicle to be pushed into a utility pole. Extrication was required by firefighters to free the man, who was trapped in the vehicle and seriously injured. Traffic was blocked in the area, and both vehicles were towed. The investigation continues.

Erie Police, Erie Fire and EmergyCare units all responded.

Another serious one-car accident occurred earlier Thursday afternoon at about 3:45 on Route 8 in Venango Township, just south of the intersection of routes 8 and 89. A man was driving north on Route 8 when he veered across the southbound lanes and off the road. The car struck a large rock in a yard, flipping the vehicle and ejecting the driver. A medical issue may have been the cause. The man was flown by helicopter to a regional hospital.

Wattsburg fire crews and PA state police were among those units on scene.
