Tunein Alert: ERC Marathon Public Service Event, Tomorrow (Sunday 16)

September 15, 2012

Be sure to tune on your scanners tomorrow to the ham radio band, to listen to the Radio Association of Erie (RAE) volunteers operating as a public service at the Erie Runners’ Club marathon at Presque Isle State Park. The RAE’s web site is currently under construction, and a time for the event to begin is unlisted. However, my guess would be that you will want to tune in during the 6:00-8:00 AM time frame. The frequency will most likely be the 146.610 W3GV repeater in Erie.

I always enjoy listening to ham radio public service events. It shows how ham radio is not only used as a hobby and pastime, but also as a communications source that benefits everyone in the community. At these events, the operators provide communications whenever necessary, manning the rest stops, assisting in locating lost children, friends, relatives or items, and reporting on the progress of the runners. The events are actually quite interesting to listen to.

So, be sure to tune in to 146.61 MHZ tomorrow morning for the ERC marathon! I will not be listening to the event live, but will be recording it. I will post any interesting sections to the site later.
